CLOTHING

In addition to my scarves, ties, and handbags, I also create clothing. Clothing is available in both small, limited edition runs and as one-of-a-kind pieces.   Shown here on the website are examples of one of a kind works. I begin with white silk, which I then proceed to color. Immersion dyeing, various techniques of resist dyeing, discharge processes, and marbling are the primary techniques I use to apply layers of color to silk, although I occasionally add printed images as well.

I often piece my finished silks together to create jackets. I have always had an infinity for collage and abstract painting. Piecing my fabric further expands my range of expression with color and design. With one-of-a-kind designs that require lining, I hand dye the lining for each jacket as the jacket evolves.  Inspired by traditional Japanese garments, I believe the linings, although not seen, should be beautiful and bring another level of expression to the garment. Many of my garments are based on traditional Japanese garments, most notably the hapi and haori. These garments are classic, with the simplicity of design allowing for unlimited surface decoration. They have the additional benefit of being flattering to all wearers.

Prices for my clothing ranges from $88 for simple dyed and marbled shells to as much as $600 for elaborate pieced and lined jackets. The limited editions clothing lines tend to be in the $160 - $300 range.   Please call 615.790.3689 to inquire and discuss the availability and price of both the limited edition clothing and one-of-a-kind pieces and to obtain digital images of currently available clothing.
